The debate if librarians belong to an international profession is more actual than before and LIS education worldwide is infusing an international dimension in curricula content.
With personal experiences in international cooperation, the author focuses on international collaboration of LIS schools for education and training of innovative, multicultural, new professionals adapt to work in a world global scenario. The international LIS courses expose some of the world best minds, youngs and adult, to an international curriculum and to exchange of knowledge between each other.
Several initiatives in the Mediterranean countries are evidenced, including cooperation between LIS schools organisations, common curricula development, joint and twin courses bringing to an international recognised academic title.
The outcomes, as well the organisational and cultural challenges of these initiatives are discussed.
